Finally we entered Madurai – the city that never sleeps on account of the active night life. 

 The great Meenakshi Amman Temple is a historic Hindu temple in the temple city of Madurai. It is dedicated to Meenakshi, and her consort, Shiva/Sundareswarar. Meenakshi is an incarnation of goddess Parvati. 

The temple is surrounded by gopurams (gateway tower),- There are 14 gopuram and the central shrine of Meenakshi Amman temple and her consort Sundareswarar are surrounded by three enclosures and each of these are protected by four minor towers at the four points of the compass. the tallest was the famous southern tower and was built in 1559. The oldest gopuram is the eastern one. It was built during 1216-1238

The palace complex of  King Thirumalai Nayaker mahal was constructed in the Indo-Saracenic style by Thirumalai Nayaker in 1636 CE.

-The palace of Rani Mangamma has been renovated to house one of the five Gandhi Sanghralayas (Gandhi Memorial Museum, Madurai) in the country. It includes apart of the blood-stained garment worn by Mahatma Gandhi when he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse.
